The Tennessee School of Massage was founded in October 1988 by David and Cissie Pryor. They both recognized the need for a comprehensive training program offering holistic, professional massage training. After months of laborious preparation, the Tennessee School of Massage was born.
Training at the Tennessee School of Massage focuses on classic forms of massage including Swedish style, relaxing deep tissue and sports massage. The techniques taught have been tried, proven, and perfected in the Mid-South’s premier day spa, Living Health Day Spa. This special mix of holistic wellness principles and personal development enables our students to practice high quality mass The Professional Massage Therapy Program at Tennessee School of Massage (TSOM), located in beautiful Memphis, TN consists of four eight-week semesters, covering all aspects of the theory and practice of massage therapy, totaling seven hundred hours. Students attend classes four days a week, with additional time scheduled for clinical. Our day program meets Mondays from 11am – 2pm and Tues thru Thursday from 10 am – 3 pm. Evenings are scheduled Monday thru Thursday from 5:30 – 9:30pm. Our academic program runs over a 9 month period. The curriculum is an integration of courses from three main areas including Allied Sciences, Massage Techniques and Personal Growth. Required courses include Anatomy, Physiology, Nutrition, Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, Hydrotherapy Techniques, Introduction to Acupressure, Therapeutic Touch, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Ambient Sound, Spa therapies, Stone massage and extensive hands-on Clinical Practice.
Tennessee School of Massage has an internship program in partnership with Living Health Day Spa. The internship experience prepares students to go out into the real world, by providing graduates with a behind the scenes look at how a real massage business works, as well as helping the student to begin building their own book of clients in order to begin their practice immediately upon graduating and taking their MBLEx and receiving their license from the TN Board of Massage.1988
